Update: The wavelength of gps is around 1500Mhz (19.05), after checking about antennas lengths I found out that a single wire antenna should be 1/4 of the wavelength which is 4.75CM I guess that's why I got better result with the 5CM wire.
Also here is a great link about modding your phone with some patch antennas: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421671&page=1
To fix the gps software you can follow one of the many guides available such as the one here:I suggest installing the apps topntp and gps test http://www.gizchina.com/2013/07/23/how-to-fix-poor-gps-on-mediatek-phones/
After i've applied the settings fix I was able to get GPS lock if I was outside and standing still, but if I was driving the lock was very poor.
The gps test app showed signal strength of around 15-22 which is very low, so i've made the following antenna using a 5cm wire (i've tried a 10cm one and the 5cm worked better)
Here are some pictures:
A simple jumper wire i've uncovered(removed plastic covering)
Insert the wire to the left side of the opening.
You can cover it with some tape so it holds better.
You can run the wire through the power button opening.
You can put the wire through the earphone opening.
Can you post GPS test before and after. Because this might not fix anything
I don't know how to respond to your comment.
Are you suggesting that my phone just accidentally works better with this antenna and stops working when I remove it?
Do you think I did not use the gps test I recommended before and after this fix?
Why don't you try it yourself and post your own before and after tests.
Hi, where is the wire connected? Have I only put it through this small slot? Thanks a lot!! 🙂
yes. it has to touch the left wire strip. (there are two parallel wires in that slot). use some app the shows the gps reception, you will immediately see a spike in the signal strength when you touch the antenna with the left wire.
Thanks, it works. The signal is much stronger
